Hindrances removed on traditional navigation route to celebrate Urs Syed Qamar ud Din Bukhari (RA)

SRINAGAR: Divisional Administration and District Administration Ganderbal has made all required arrangements for the revival of the traditional water navigation route after a gap of 33 years to observe the festival of Syed Qamar Din Bukhari (RA) at Beehama Ganderbal.

Traditionally a fleet of boats carrying artists would perform various Sufi songs, Naats, etc during the journey from Dal Lake to Beehama.

While reviving the cultural aspect of the festival, a cultural program will be performed by the artists on the motor boats from Srinagar to Ganderbal along the River Jhelum, after the lapse of three decades.

Meanwhile, I&FC Department removed various hurdles on the Jhelum River including wooden & Iron poles from Chattabal onwards besides poles erected by fishermen have also been removed. Also, trees & bushes hanging down into Jhelum have been removed to make passage safe for boats to celebrate Urs. The route opted for navigation starts from Zero Bridge, Rajbagh Srinagar.

To facilitate the devotees, Divisional Administration has made the availability of six motorized boats which shall be provided by the Irrigation & Flood Control Department, SDRF, Tourism Department, and JKTDC.

Besides, ten shikaras shall also be made available by the Tourism Department.
