Srinagar: A “terror associate” was arrested along with arms and ammunition at a check-post by the police and security forces in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday, officials said.

Giving details, police spokesman said that on the basis of specific information regarding movement of a “terror associate”, police along with the troops 3 Rashtriya Rifles established a checkpoint (Naka) at Hutmara Sandoz crossing.

He said a suspected individual coming from Chak Hassanabad “fled in the opposite direction after seeing the naka party.”  However, the security forces chased and overpowered him.

“On searching the individual, one pistol, one magazine and six live rounds were recovered,” added the spokesman.

He identified the arrestee as Fazial Ahmad Wagay, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Wagay, resident of Chak Hassanabad, Hutmara.

Police said that a case (under FIR No 78/2022 U/S 7/25 Arms Act 16,18,39 UAPA) has been registered in Police Station Mattan, Anantnag and further investigation is going-on.

Underground hideout busted in Baramulla

Security forces busted an underground hideout in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday and recovered a huge cache of ammunition, officials said.

A joint team of police and the army launched a search operation in Baramulla’s Dudbug-TY Shah forest area in the early hours of Thursday, they said.

During the operation, the team recovered two boxes of ammunition from an underground hideout, officials said.

The ammunition recovered included 1,460 bullets of AK-47 assault rifle.
