Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday reported 333 fresh COVID-19 cases, recording nearly 120 percent jump over the previous day’s count, and one fatality due to the disease, officials said here.

The tally of the infections in the Union territory now stands at 4,57,517, while the death toll is at 4,760, they said, adding this includes 2,425 deaths in Kashmir division, and 2,335 in Jammu division.

While 187 cases of the disease were reported from Jammu division, 146 cases were from Kashmir Valley, the officials said, adding the latest fatality due to Covid was reported from the Jammu division.

Providing district-wise breakup for positive cases for today, they informed that Jammu district reported 137 cases, Srinagar reported 95 cases, Udhampur reported 20 cases, Budgam reported 11 cases, Anantnag reported five cases, Baramulla and Ganderbal reported 12 cases each, Kathua and Kupwara reported nine cases each, Samba reported 14 cases, Rajouri reported three cases, Doda and Kishtwar reported two cases each, and Kulgam and Pulwama reported one case each.

Moreover, 70 more COVID-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours after their recuperation, including 40 from Kashmir division and 3 from Jammu division.

Currently there are 1,402 active cases of the disease in the Union territory — 801 in Jammu Division and 601 in Kashmir — and the cumulative number of recoveries has reached 4,51,355, they said.

 Mask mandate reimposed in Srinagar, Ganderbal and Bandipora districts

Amid a spike in Covid cases, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has made face masks mandatory in three districts of the Union Territory, officials said on Tuesday.

The number for active Covid cases, which had dropped to just below 50 towards the end of May, rose to nearly 1,200 on Monday. While Srinagar has 390 active cases, Jammu has 519.

According to officials, wearing of face masks has been made compulsory in Srinagar, Ganderbal and Bandipora districts in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19, they said.
