As Covid positive cases surge, CS urges public to take precautions, free booster doses

Srinagar: In view of the rising cases of COVID-19, the Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta Saturday appealed to the people of J&K to take the necessary precautions and be safe. He said it is better to take preventive measures than taking the risk of getting infected by the disease.

Stating that there is a little surge in Covid positive cases but the mortality fortunately is very low, Dr Mehta impressed that it is time to renew efforts to contain this contagious virus from spreading again.

He enjoined upon all to enforce mandatory SoPs like wearing of face masks, use of hand sanitisers, etc. He also advised people to take precautions and be careful in public places for the general good of all of them.

The Chief Secretary also encouraged the people to take the precautionary dose whoever is eligible. He made out that it is the mass vaccination that has saved human lives last time and this time again people should show prudence by taking the free booster doses for their safety and well being.

Dr Mehta also directed the concerned to commence an IEC campaign and create awareness among masses. He asked them to be vigilant and ensure that the virus does not spread uncontrollably. He asked them to monitor the situation constantly and take measures simultaneously.

“Last time our performance was efficient as we didn’t let the situation take an ugly turn,” he said while hoping that “this time too we together would better that record by playing our respective roles by being responsible and careful.”

Meanwhile, amid rising numbers of Covid-19 positive cases, in Kashmir, Director Health Services Kashmir has directed all Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents and Block Medical officers to keep 10-15 beds available for such patients in all district or sub district hospitals.

According to an order all such medical facilities have been directed to keep 4-5 beds for Covid-19 antenatal patients.

“In view of the resurgence of Covid-19 positive cases in the country as well as in Kashmir division, it is hereby enjoined upon all the Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents & Block Medical Officers to ensure the provision of 10-15 Beds for Covid-19 positive patients in all District/Sub District Hospitals, out of which 4-5 beds be kept for Covid-19 positive antenatal patients,” reads a circular issued by Director Health Services Kashmir.
