Srinagar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday said that Assembly elections will be conducted in Jammu and Kashmir as soon as a new voter-list as per the recently concluded Delimitation exercise is completed.

Senior BJP leader and co-Incharge Jammu and Kashmir, Ashish Sood said preparations are on for holding elections in Jammu and Kashmir and that the announcement in this regard will be made once a new voter-list based on Delimitation exercise is completed.

He said “the government besides making all out efforts to root out militancy from the Union Territory dreams of making J&K crown of India in terms of development.”

“Delimitation exercise is done, so far as holding elections in Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, it will be done as soon as new voter-list based on delimitation exercise is completed,” said Sood while talking to media on the sidelines of a function organized to mark 68th death anniversary Dr Shayama Prasad Mukharjee.

It may be in place to mention that the Delimitation Commission which was tasked to redraw electoral boundaries in Jammu & Kashmir finalized the Union territory’s new electoral map last month thus paving the way for fresh elections in the region since its special status was scrapped in 2019.

On targeted killings Sood said targeted killings are aimed at derailing the peace process in Jammu and Kashmir. He said attacks on innocent laborers and minority community members are carried out on the directions of Pakistan.

“Government is fighting with those who attack lone wolf, target minorities. This is done on the directions of Pakistan to derail the peace process in Jammu and Kashmir; they will continue these unholy attempts as their sole objective is to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the UT,” added he.
