Srinagar: Apni Party Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir on Wednesday asked people to be alert in view of the continuous rainfall and swelling up of the rivers and tributaries across the Valley.

He also urged the administration to take adequate precautionary measures to ensure the people in flood-prone areas are protected. Also, Mir directed his Party cadre to be alert to render a helping hand to those who are facing any difficulty due to the enduring flood-like situation.

In his statement issued here, Mir said, “Since the administration has sounded flood alert and we can see the water level is rising in rivers and tributaries, people, especially those who live in vulnerable areas, should be alert and take adequate precautionary measures.”

Urging the administration to ensure timely measures to protect the people living in flood-prone areas, and to deal with any eventuality, Mir said, “Authorities must ensure that the concerned departments are functioning round the clock till the flood threat is gone. We must have dewatering stations fully functional, and the mobile dewatering pumps deployed at the places where they could be used. Also, the disaster response teams must be on alert and the helplines should be opened so that people can contact them in case they require any help. The concerned departments should ensure the availability of sufficient medicine stocks especially related to water-borne diseases in the districts.”

“With continuous rainfall, we are seeing water logging in several areas of the Srinagar city, thus the men should be deployed to clean up the drains so that water logging is prevented,” he added.

Mir has asked the Apni Party workers to be alert and watchful so that they can render a helping hand to the people in case of any eventuality. He said, “Apni Party workers must keep themselves alert to help the people in case they are in trouble. We hope that the weather will be alright, and everybody is safe, yet we need to be alert till the danger passes away.”
