Director Rural Sanitation discusses sanitation measures for SANJY-2022

GANDERBAL: The Director Rural Sanitation Kashmir, Charandeep Singh on Wednesday undertook a visit to Baltal and inspected the sanitation measures being carried out along the National highway and Baltal.

On the occasion, the Director also inspected the progress on various sanitation works that are being executed to make this year’s Yatra clean and pollution-free.

The Director had a detailed discussion with the District Panchayat Officer Ganderbal, Bilqees Wani and various Block Development Officers of the district. 

He laid stress on setting up of structures for scientific management of garbage being generated in rural areas, especially in panchayats falling along the National Highway.

Later, the Director visited Baltal Base Camp where the Rural Development Department is providing 21 stationary and 700 movable toilets for Shri Amarnath Ji yatra.

Speaking on the occasion, Singh emphasized on ODF sustainability and clean villages. He said that Gram Panchayats need to be at the forefront of the clean village campaign and every Gram Sabha should come up with a resolution and plan to ensure that any waste generated by households in the village is scientifically disposed and also non-biodegradable waste is collected and disposed of properly for which a nominal user fee may be charged from each household to be decided by the Gram Panchayat itself.

He said community involvement is a must to achieve the vision of clean villages. “Youth groups and SHGs can play their role in the clean village campaign for which the Rural Sanitation Directorate will provide requisite support,” he said.

While reviewing the status of ODF plus and Baseline Survey, the Director urged BDOs to focus on the data updation under these components. He also stressed on completion of geo-tagging of Rural Sanitation assets and clearing of financial pendencies of IHHL units on priority in the next 10 days.
