MoH&FW team holds series of meetings with MD NHM J&K

JAMMU: Additional Commissioner, Child and Adolescent Health, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Sumita Ghosh, who is on monitoring visit to Jammu and Kashmir, today convened meeting with Mission Director, National Health Mission J&K, Yasin M Choudhary, to discuss India Newborn Action Plan and situational analysis of newborn health in the UT.

The meeting was attended by Head of Department Paediatrics, Government Medical College Jammu/Srinagar, HoDs of New Government Medical Colleges, Programme Director Norway India Partnership Initiative and representative of UNICEF and Programme Managers of National Health Mission, J&K.

Pertinently, India Newborn Action Plan (INAP) is India’s committed response to Global Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) at the 67th World Health Assembly to advance the Global Strategy for Women and Children’s Health. The ENAP sets forth a vision of a world that has eliminated preventable newborn deaths and stillbirths. INAP lays out a vision and a plan for India to end preventable newborn deaths, accelerate progress, and scale up high-impact yet cost effective interventions. INAP has a clear vision supported by goals, strategic intervention packages, priority actions, and a monitoring framework.

Earlier, a meeting was also conducted at NHM office Srinagar to discuss the District Health Action Plan for improving the key performance indicators identified by NITI Aayog for Srinagar district under the chairmanship of Additional Commissioner, Child Health, MoH&FW, Dr Sumita Ghosh, and Mission Director, NHM J&K, Yasin M. Choudhary.

The health action plan was prepared by Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) in consultation with NHM J&K and Chief Medical Officer Srinagar. A detailed presentation regarding the situational analysis of various indicators and proposed strategies to improve the same in time bound manner was presented by Dr. Ashfaq Bhat, Program Director, NIPI. All the indicators were discussed threadbare and inputs were taken from all the stakeholders present in the meeting in order to draft a holistic action plan.

Mission Director, NHM, J&K while speaking on the occasion said that to bring rapid improvement in Key Performance Indicators in time bound manner the Government will work together in mission mode with the support of identified lead development partners for improving the status of the health indicators.

The meeting was attended by Chief Medical Officer, Srinagar and his team, Program Managers of NHM J&K, State Monitoring and Evaluation Officer NHM, Lead Consultant Child Health, MoH&FW, representative of UNICEF and NIPI J&K team.
