Srinagar: Former Cabinet Minister and Apni Party Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir has urged the government to ensure the financial institutions of J&K cooperate well with the institutions and departments which pursue and recommend cases under various self-employment schemes for the women.

He said that even though we have numerous self-employment schemes and the institutions like as J&K Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB), J&K Women’s Development Corporation, (JKSWDC) in Jammu and Kashmir, “we do not see any notable progress in terms of financial empowerment of women in here”. He said the institutions and departments that work for the empowerment of women need to be converged properly with the financial institution so that self-employment schemes are implemented appropriately across Jammu and Kashmir.

Mir was speaking at a function, at Apni Party headquarters in Srinagar, wherein as many as 20 women from North Kashmir’s Kupwara district joined the Party on Monday.

While greeting the joiners into the party fold, Apni Party senior vice-president Ghulam Hassan Mir said, “I wholeheartedly welcome you into the Apni Party and assure you that we would jointly work for the empowerment of women, especially in education, finance, social, and political fields.”

Mir further said that there is no doubt that J&K has numerous self-employment schemes that are meant to uplift the womenfolk of the Union Territory (UT). But, he said, we do not see these schemes getting properly implemented on the ground.

He said, “we have important institutions and departments such as J&K Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB), J&K Women’s Development Corporation, (JKSWDC), and so on; but these institutions need to be converged properly with the financial institution of UT so that self-employment schemes are implemented appropriately across Jammu and Kashmir.”

He further said, “These schemes, if implemented properly, are vital for the empowerment of women. I believe that the concerned departments should be convergent to the financial institutions, only then we will see a change on the ground in terms of the financial and social empowerment of J&K women. Unless the concerned departments are not well coordinated with the financial institutions, the process of empowerment of women cannot catch the required speed.”

He assured that Apni Party will not leave any stone unturned to ensure the educational, financial, social, and political empowerment of women in Jammu and Kashmir. And we will struggle to ensure that issues and the problems that our womenfolk are facing in Jammu and Kashmir, are addressed and the women get their due right to a dignified and prosperous life.

On this occasion, besides Mir, Apni Party State Secretary Muntazir Mohi-ud-din, Provincial President Women’s Wing Dilshada Shaheen, Coordinator Rafiqa, Provincial Secretary Afroza Khan, State Coordinator Youth outreach & Capacity building Programme Tariq Mohiuddin, and Fayaz Bukari were present. The joining was organised by Vice President Kupwara Parveena.
