Encounter underway at Pandoshan, Shopian: Two civilians, soldier injured;hospitalised

Shopian: Two civilians, one of them critically, have been injured in an ongoing encounter between security forces and the militants in Pandoshan area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

One soldier has also been injured during the encounter, Police said.

“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: One Soldier has also got injured. He has been shifted to hospital for treatment. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

A police official said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

“#Encounter has started at Pandoshan area of #Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: During initial cordon & search operation, #terrorists fired upon civilians and tried to escape, in which two #civilians got #injured. Both the injured shifted to hospital. One of them is critical. Cordon strengthened, details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police said in another tweet.

Sources said that one of the injured civilian is in critical condition and that both the injured have been airlifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment.

“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: Both the #injured #civilians have been #airlifted to #Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted around 10.40 PM on Monday.

Some news agencies reported that two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.
