Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said disallowing prayers at Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid has put into question the normalcy claims of the incumbent administration.

He said this while addressing a meeting of the YNC functionaries of Central Zone here at the party headquarters Nawa-e-Subha, Srinagar. Among others Party General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, YNC Provincial President Salman Ali Sagar, Deputy Political Secretary to VP Mudassir Shahmiri, and Central Zone YNC President Mir Mushtaq  were also present on the occasion. The meet was also marked by the attendance of all the Central Zone YNC District presidents.

Addressing youth functionaries, Omar alluded to the scores of youth, who are languishing in Jails and called for their release in view of the upcoming Eid festivity. “There are families who can ill-afford to meet their wards languishing in different jails of the country. Government should consider transferring such youth to local jails. The measure will bring respite to thousands of such families who are yearning to see the faces of their young ones on the eve of Eid,” he said.

Questioning disallowing of congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid he said such gags deflate the normalcy claims of the government in Kashmir. “If everything is normal then why is Jamia Masjid being kept out of bounds for devotees,” he said, demanding that the gates of Jamia be left open for devotees in view of Jumatul Vida and Eid prayers.
