J&K records 9 fresh cases of COVID-19

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday recorded nine fresh cases of coronavirus, taking the cumulative number of infections to 4,53,929 while no death due to the virus was reported in the past 24 hours, officials said.

There are currently 71 active cases in the union territory, including 68 in Kashmir division and three in Jammu division, they said.

All the fresh cases were from Kashmir division of the union territory, the officials said, adding the Srinagar district recorded the highest of seven cases followed by two cases in Baramulla district.

Eighteen of the total 22 districts in the Union territory did not report any fresh cases.

Moreover, eight more COVID-19 patients from Kashmir division have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals, they said.

No new case of mucormycosis (black fungus) was reported today, officials said.

On vaccination, the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus informed that 15,911 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of doses administered so far across J&K to 2,24,19,665.

According to the bulletin, out of 4,53,929 positive cases recorded cumulatively across J&K, so far a total of 4,49,107 persons have recovered and 4,750 have died – 2,423 in Kashmir  and 2,327 in Jammu division.

Meanwhile India’s COVID-19 tally climbed to 4,30,40,947 on Saturday with 975 more people testing positive for the viral disease, while the active cases increased to 11,366, according to Union health ministry data.

The death toll reached 5,21,747 with four more fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.03 percent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76 percent, the ministry said.

An increase of 175 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.32 percent and the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 0.26 percent, the ministry said.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,25,07,834. The case fatality rate stands at 1.21 percent, it added.

The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive has exceeded 186.38 crore.
