President MCB Touseef Raina loses no confidence motion by 3 votes

Baramulla: A year after being elected as President Baramulla Municipal Council, Touseef Raina on Saturday lost a no-confidence motion that was moved against him by several councilors.

Executive Officer MCB Imtiyaz Ahmad said that a floor test was conducted in which a total 17 councilors participated and one didn’t attend the meeting. Out of 17 votes, 10 went against Raina — thus he loses the no-confidence motion.

The official said that a new election will be held only after the government announces dates for the same.

Interestingly, Raina has replaced Omar AzharKakroo in a similar non-confidence motion in January 2021.

Reports said Kakroo again is likely to replace Raina as President MCB.

After participating in the no-confidence motion, Kakroo told reporters that councilors in Baramulla MCB felt that development of Baramulla has been badly affected and they moved the no-confidence motion as per law, which Touseef Raina lost.

Touseef Raina said that he lost the floor test by a margin of three votes today “when some BJP-supported members led by Anwar Khan chose to bring me down because I refused to follow their line.”

“This is not the first time I have suffered a loss. I consider it a part of democracy, a system I deeply value. I always try to learn lessons from my losses and do better. We fall, and then we rise again,” he said.

“I am very happy and satisfied to have been able to redefine and energize the development discourse in Baramulla, which had been badly neglected. I contributed my time, energy, and ideas with dedication for the benefit of all. I worked hard in every way possible for our town’s growth,” he said.
