Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday sought immediate evacuation of stranded students including those from J&K stranded in War-torn Ukraine.

This was stated by the party spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar while expressing concern over the plight of stranded JK students in the conflict ridden Ukraine. “Students stranded in war torn Ukraine continue to face harrowing times. We have been in receipt of numerous distress calls from J&K students. Even the Indian embassy is not abreast of the predicaments suffered by the Indian compatriots, particularly young students putting up in most horrid conditions.”

“The delay in the reach out of the Indian embassy to the stranded students has escalated anxiety levels among them. Most of the compatriots from JK, particularly students are running on empty stomach and excruciating weather vagaries. With no clarity on the government’s evacuation plan, the stranded students are putting up on roads,” he said, adding that the death of an Indian student in the ongoing shelling in the Kharkiv region this morning has parents of stranded students on tenterhooks.

“I hope the union government will take quick action for evacuation before it is too late. Control rooms should be set  in all major cities in the war time region and food and transportation should also be made available to the stranded,” he added.
