Srinagar: The number of COVID-19 cases more than doubled in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours with 418 fresh infections taking the cumulative infection tally to 3,42,419, while no new death due to the virus was reported in the Union Territory, officials said on Wednesday.

Of the fresh cases, 107 were from the Kashmir and 311 from the Jammu division, they said.

Highest number of cases were reports from Reasi (156) followed by Jammu district (109).

Srinagar district reported 52 cases, Baramulla 13 cases, Budgam 16 cases, Pulwama 08 cases, Kupwara 09 cases, Bandipora 03 cases, Ganderbal 04 cases and Kulgam and Shopian reported 01 fresh case each today. Anantnag district reported no fresh case, said officials.

In Jammu division. Officials said that Jammu district reported 109 cases, Reasi 156 cases, Udhampur 15 cases, Rajouri 05 cases, Doda reported 03 cases, Kathua 10 cases, Samba 03 cases, Poonch 06 cases, Kishtwar 03 cases while as Ramban reported 01 case.

The number of daily positive cases have doubled in the last 24 hours as 199 cases were detected on Tuesday.

Reasi district recorded a maximum of 156 cases followed by 109 cases in Jammu district.

Officials also said that 140 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals including 112 from Kashmir and 28 from Jammu division in the last 24 hours.

The death toll in the Union Territory remained at 4,530 as no fresh fatality was reported in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the officials said there were 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) in Jammu and Kashmir as no fresh case was reported since Tuesday evening.

On vaccination, the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus informed that 83,611doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across J&K to 1,89,79,313.

According to the bulletin, out of 3,42,419 positive cases recorded cumulatively thus far, currently there are 1,819 active positive cases in the UT including 925 in Kashmir and 894 in Jammu division, while as 3,36,070 persons have recovered and 4,530 have died – 2,331 in Kashmir and 2,199 in Jammu division.

Meanwhile, amid surge in the Covid-19 cases, the government has imposed night curbs in Jammu and Kashmir from January 06.

An order issued by the government on Wednesday late evening said that there shall be complete restriction on non-essential movement in the entire UT of J&K from 9 pm to 6 am till further orders.
