The villagers told Kashmir Images that they carried the pregnant woman in a makeshift cot tramping through 3-feet snow to reach the nearest public health centre Boniyar Uri.

Mohammad Saleem Khattana, husband of the pregnant woman said, “After my wife complained of pain, we tried to take her to hospital but the road was closed. ASHA worker accompanied us and called an ambulance but due to heavy snowfall, the vehicle couldn’t reach the spot.”

“Given the exigency, I along with my neighbours took her on a cot upto four kilometers from where we boarded the ambulance near Peerinaya national highway,” he added.

Meanwhile, BMO Boniyar Dr. Pervaiz Masoodi that the pregnant lady’s expected date of delivery (EDD) is on January 09 and there was no emergency as such but the video shared on social media wants to send a wrong message that there is a lack of health facility, which is baseless.

“Directions have been already passed to all ASHAs, officials concerned to evacuate all the women expecting deliveries’ in coming days to avert any emergency. The pregnant lady was also informed by an Asha to get herself admitted before the snowfall. The good news is that the pregnant woman is safe and healthy,” he added.
