Srinagar, Apr 27: Accusing judiciary of being “apathetic and unsympathetic towards suppressed people of the occupied state,” Hurriyat-G chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Friday said that communalization and politicization of rape and murder of eight-year-old girl in Kathua is deplorable and disheartening.

In a statement issued by Hurriyat-G here today, Geelani said the gruesome rape and murder of the eight-year-old girl from the Bakerwal community “reminds us of the challenges confronting our society. It is beastly act, and one and all need to resent and react against these gruesome incidents.”

Demanding stringent punishment for rapists , and those who are evoking emotions and giving communal color to rape-and-murder case, Geelani said that “these fringe elements are committing a heinous crime against humanity.”

Geelani said that some vested interests are trying to derive political mileage out of a brutal and inhuman act. He appealed the people in Jammu to identify and resent those sick-minded people who for their mean interests are trying to communalize this barbaric incident.

Blaming authorities, Geelani alleged that “vested elements and some criminals are hatching conspiracies to handover case to CBI and trying their hard to shelve case and acquit perpetrators, and for this purpose even Supreme Court of India is facilitating the move.”

“We have no faith in Indian judiciary,” Geelani said, adding that their “track record about Kunan Poshpora and Shopian double murder and rape cases, serve as glaring examples of their bias and communal mindset.”

Geelani demanded an impartial probe by some internal agency into the Kathua rape and murder case.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Hurriyat-G spokesman lashed out at state police and authorities for barring Geelani from offering Friday congregational prayers.

He said, “Geelani and other resistance leaders are barred from performing religious obligations which is interference in religious matters.”

“Geelani is a leader of international stature, scholar and a statesman,” the spokesman said, and added that there is no constitutional and moral justification to curb his peaceful political activities and stop him from performing religious obligations.

Spokesman said that his residence has been turned into a sub-jail.
