SRINAGAR, APRIL 26: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today reviewed the traffic scenario in Kashmir and sought action taken report on various initiatives undertaken by various departments during the previous meetings.

The Div Com said that the progress on streamlining traffic has started to yield dividends and stressed on the need to continue the drive for the benefits to become permanent. He was speaking at the meeting which was attended by DDC Srinagar, IG Traffic, Traffic Advisor and officials from R&B, SMC, RTO and representatives of various transporter associations.

The Div Com said that streamlining of traffic stands in one of the top priorities of the government and every step will be taken to make it happen in speedy mode. He directed the transporters to ensure that there is no overloading in passenger bus, drivers and conductors wear the uniform, reserved seats are kept for women passengers, students are given fare concession and buses ply according to a timetable.

The Div Com expressed his concern over the complaints against the passenger buses that they do not adhere to any timeline and take hours even for a minor distance. He directed the officials to ensure that buses travel according to specific time and do not stand on roads even when they have passengers.

The Div Com directed the DDC Srinagar to explore shifting of Jehangir Chowk Bus stand to some suitable place so that the area is decongested. Regarding the metering of Autos, the Div Com said that government will look into the demands of auto rickshaw owners and ensure that every auto plies according to the meter in near future.

The IG Traffic said that locations are being ascertained for setting up of auto stands. He said that government will not tolerate encroachments and illegal vendors who act as impediments to smooth flow of traffic.

The Div Com directed SMC to start massive sanitation drive at Parimpora bus stand. He also directed the RE&B to explore the possibility of redesigning the divider on the Bypass road so that buses have easy access to Parimpora bus stand.
