He said that since August 27, among those who died of COVID-19 in Kashmir division, 18 persons were unvaccinated, six were partially-vaccinated and three were fully vaccinated.

He said that cases reported in the same period include 42 percent among the unvaccinated, 35 percent among the fully vaccinated and the rest partially-vaccinated.

Commenting on the death of fully vaccinated people, the officials said that fully vaccinated people become complacent and don’t report to the hospital in time after catching the infection.

“It is the use of masks and other Covid-appropriate behaviours which can stop transmission of the virus and not the vaccination alone. Vaccination decreases severity, but people shouldn’t become complacent after vaccination, and should report to the hospital once they have symptoms of Covid-19,” he said.

He added that despite the surge in Covid-19 cases in the last few weeks, the hospitality rate hasn’t increased so much as was witnessed in the initial stage of the second wave. (With inputs from KNO)
