Tribal Pride Day to be celebrated on Nov 15

Jammu: The Tribal Affairs Department will organise celebrations on 1st Tribal Pride Day declared on November 15 which will also mark a weeklong series of events culminating with the first J&K Literary and Cultural Tribal Festival showcasing the rich cultural heritage of tribes in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Union Cabinet headed by the Prime Minister declared 15th November as Tribal Pride Day/National Tribal Day which will mark celebration of rich cultural heritage of tribes and also remembering their role in freedom struggle.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs will also undertake various initiatives during the Tribal Pride Week beginning on 15th November.

Secretary, Tribal Affairs Department Dr Shahid Choudhary informed that department in collaboration with other departments and organisations will celebrate the 1st Tribal Pride Day on November 15 to commemorate the rich cultural heritage of tribal communities in Jammu and Kashmir and various pan-India unifying features as well as honouring the tribal citizens for excellent performance in various fields.

The week-long celebrations being organised by the department will include a number of activities to be organised in all districts as well as institutions.

The celebrations will culminate with a two-day tribal festival planned to be organised at Jammu on 22-23 November which will be first such festival being organised by the Tribal Research Institute and will cover art, culture, folk music, theater art, literature, paper reading, storytelling and more.

The Tribal Research institute in collaboration with Rural Development Department and National TRI New Delhi is also organising a two day capacity building workshop for tribal members of Gram Panchayats aimed at their capacity building for formulation of Gram Panchayat Development Plan and Integrated Village Development Plans.

The workshop is focused on empowerment of gram panchayats in tribal areas.

The programmes to be organised during the week also include painting competitions, quiz competition, essay writing, extempore speech, patriotic song competition, folk music, tribal art and culture exhibitions, photo exhibitions.

The tribal pride day and weeklong activities will also be celebrated/organised in all the hostels of department and educational institutions.
