Two dead bodies fished out from river Jhelum in Barmaulla

Baramulla: Body of an unidentified boy and a shepherd were recovered from river Jhelum on Tuesday in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Sources said, body of shepherded Nazir Ahmad Cheechi, 20, son of Mohammad Yousaf Cheechi, a resident of Panaar Bandipora who drowned a week ago, was fished out from river Jehlum near Seer Jagir area of Sopore.

Pertinently Cheechi had drowned in the river on October 13 following which a rescue operation was launched to trace him.

The body was handed to the family for last rites, they further said.

Meanwhile, an unidentified body of a boy was spotted floating over the waters by the locals at NHPC Dam Boniyar in Baramulla district.

They informed the police and a  team reached the spot and retrieved the body from the dam.

Meanwhile a police official confirming the retrieval of the body from the dam said “It (body) seems to be of a young boy”, adding there are no injury marks anywhere on the body. The body is being shifted to Baramulla mortuary, the official further said.
