Training prog on ‘Wild Life Crime Control’ organized at Sgr

Srinagar: A one-day Training programme on ‘Wild Life Crime Control’ for DFOs and ROs of UT of J&K was organized here today.

A total of 51 officers from different locations across UT of J&K participated in the training session.

On the occasion, Riyaz Ahmad Malik, Principal Kashmir Forest Training School (KFTS) Chitternar spoke in detail about challenges of biodiversity-related crime. He also spoke about the infamous Sansar Chand vs State of Rajasthan, 2010 Supreme Court observations.

He quoted Milan Kudera by saying that Humanity’s true moral test is its attitude towards those who are at its mercy; animals and as such it is need of the hour to train and acquaint Forest Officers with tricks to tackle WildLife Crime, Wildlife Crime Prevention Strategies, NTCA/ Department SOPs, Knowledge of Important Sections required for prevention of this Socio-economic crime, New techniques of wildlife crime investigation and its documentations.

During the technical session, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Singh, Trustee of Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment, New Delhi gave a detailed view on important definitions under WPA-1972 to deal with WildLife Crime detection and prevention, basic principles regarding cognizance of offence and basic precautions while acting on powers given.

The next session was taken by Advocate & State Coordinator Wild Life Crime Madhya Pradesh Prosecution, Sudha Vijay Singh Bhadoria.

Bhadoria gave insights of the concept of WildLife Crime, Registration of cases, search and seizure, arrest, special provisions under Wild Life Protection Act-1972 and prosecution of cases in Court with landmark judgments.

The Third session was taken up by Ritesh Sarothiya, RBS –Earth Hero Award Winner and OIC, Special Task Force WildLife/State Tiger Strike Force, Bhopal (MP). In this session WildLife Crime: status, global scenario and investigation techniques were dealt in detail.
