New Delhi: The National Conference Member Parliament Hassnain Masoodi on Thursday asked the Government of India to undo the August 05 decisions so as to ward-off the fallouts of the change of guard in Afghanistan in the region, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Masoodi said this while speaking at an all-party meet, where the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar briefed the leaders on the Afghan situation.

While the EAM Jaishankar spelled out various measures taken by the government to ensure safe evacuation of Indian nationals from Afghanistan, leaders of opposition political parties expressed concern over the Afghan spillover in the region, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Speaking on the occasion, the NC MP from Anantnag, Hassnain Masoodi shared the concerns of the other members about the fall-out of the changing situation of Afghanistan in the region.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the “wait and watch” policy of the government, he said that the situation calls for playing a more assertive and proactive role in order to protect the country’s interests.

He added that “policy limbo” could have serious ramifications for the entire region.

Referring to the fears triggered by the possible Afghanistan spillover, Masoodi, according to a party press release said that the GoI must not lose further time in revoking the decisions of August 05, 2019.

“To ensure that the anticipated spillover doesn’t play out in a manner that affects peace and stability in the region, the GoI must restore August 04, 2019 position to ease out the situation and generate goodwill among the populace of J&K,” he said.

He also argued that the geopolitical shift that the takeover of Afghanistan has occasioned will not touch India, if timely correctives are taken vis-à-vis J&K, and Ladakh.
