SRINAGAR:  Apni Party Provincial President Kashmir, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, on Saturday welcomed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision for supplying free ration to poor families for the month of May-June this year.

“Jammu and Kashmir has already witnessed huge economic distress since the year 2019 coupled with the Covid pandemic, the people here find it very difficult to earn a dignified sustenance,” he observed.

Mir demanded that the ambit of the scheme “PM Gareeb Kalyan Ann Yojana” be extended to all the families living in Jammu and Kashmir as a special measure to instill confidence among the people.

“The agricultural production particularly the paddy crop was drastically hit due to the Covid pandemic and it becomes the responsibility of the government of India to compensate those losses. Providing free ration to the economically underprivileged sections of the society is a welcome step but the government should make the scheme inclusive in nature,” Mir said.
