Srinagar: Director Health Service Kashmir (DHSK), Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather Sunday claimed that seven lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the Valley since January till date.

Dr Rather also appealed people to come forward for vaccination, saying coronavirus becomes less ‘effective’ after vaccination while chances of mortality also reduce considerably. He also said that there are less chances of contracting the virus after a person has taken COVID vaccine.

“We have adequate stock of vaccine available; seven lakh people were administered with COVID-19 jab so far in Kashmir. People need not to be confused and come forward for vaccination. There are less chances of contacting virus while chances of mortality also reduce after vaccination,” Dr Rather told reporters on the sidelines of a vaccination camp at Gurudwara Chatti Padshahi here.

He said that officials of the Health department are visiting every nook and corner of the Valley to encourage people for vaccination, which he said is necessary for the safety of their own selves and others as well.

Director Health further said COVID-19 vaccination centers have been opened everywhere in Kashmir so that people do not face any problem in getting themselves vaccinated.

He said they have also sought opinion of religious heads whether COVID-19 vaccine is okay if administered while fasting. “The vaccine is 100% okay to take even while fasting; I say this after seeking opinion of religious heads on ingestion of COVID-19 vaccine,” he added.

He also said no one in the Kashmir Valley has been tested positive for mutated version of COVID-19 thus far.
