Srinagar, April 14, 2018: All Parties Hurriyat Conference has hit out at the “ruling regime” and its forces for “their inhuman and vengeful attitude towards the leadership, saying the state is virtually reeling under martial law like situations. No law exists and fundamental rights have been trampled and leadership continue to be caged, said Hurriyat,

Decrying authorities for their authoritarian approach, Hurriyat Conference on Saturday strongly termed as “dictatorial” the decision of authorities to keep its chairman Syed Ali Geelani under continuous house detention.

It is a deliberate attempt to keep the leader away from masses,” Hurriyat said in a statement and added that Haji Gh Nabi Sumji, Aga Syed Hassan Alsafvi, Gh Ahmad Gulzar, Bilal Sidiqi and Mohd Ashraf Laya are continuously under house detention.

Expressing serious concern over the continuous detention and deteriorating condition of its leaders, Hurriyat alleged that its leaders were being subjected to vengeance and also accused the authorities of persecuting them in every way possible and refusing to provide basic facilities like medical care and added that these detainees are being provided with sub-standard food apart from physical and mental torture that they are subjected to.

Demanding immediate release of all detainees, Hurriyat said that fake cases have been filed against these to prolong their detention and despite court orders the authorities are detaining them on one pretext or the other.

Blaming PDP led coalition regime for ‘unleashing reign of terror’ and added that despite their ‘rhetoric for freedom of expression’, the press release said that the current government had turned the state into a ‘big jail’ and was ‘strangulating the genuine voices’ while denying political space.

Hurriyat while hailing the commitment and steadfastness of nation asked to pursue sacred mission with full devotion and asked ICRC, Asia Watch, Amnesty International and other Human Rights Organizations to come to the ‘rescue’ of these detainees and impress India to treat detainees as per charter laid by the international community.
