Islamabad, Apr 14: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Saturday that Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) has accepted the decision by the Supreme Court to disqualify former premier and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif from holding public office for life, according to reports.

The premier was talking to a gathering after inaugurating a forty-five-kilometre Jalalpur Pirwala-Uch Sharif section of the National Highway near Bahawalpur, reported Radio Pakistan.

The premier also clarified the position of the government with regards to the recent decision by the Supreme Court to disqualify PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif from public office for life.

“Political decisions should be made through polling booths, and not courts. We accept the top court’s decision to disqualify Nawaz Sharif from public office,” he said.

Prime Minister Abbasi criticised previous governments for not doing enough to serve the people of Pakistan and added that Pervez Musharraf and Asif Ali Zardari remained in power, yet did nothing to improve the condition of the people.

“Previous governments would start projects but would not finish them. PML-N government has finished all pending developments projects,” claimed Abbasi.

The prime minister further stated that he was confident that the development works undertaken during the tenure of Punjab Chief Minister Shaehbaz Sharif and former premier Nawaz Sharif outweigh the work of political rivals.

“PML-N is the true face of Pakistan’s development. The incumbent government has finished projects which will provide 10,000 megawatts of electricity to the public,” he added.

Referring to the upcoming general elections, the premier was of the opinion that the ruling party would sweep the polls scheduled for later this year with a majority.

Rehabilitation and up gradation of the road has been completed at a cost of Rs2.5 billion under the Public Sector Development Programme for southern Punjab.

The project, after completion, has connected four districts of south Punjab; Bahawalpur, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan and Muzaffargarh.

It will help in providing better communication facilities and boost economic activities in far-flung areas of southern Punjab.
