GANDERAL: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal along with SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal today visited Sonamarg to inspect the Snow clearance operation, following recent snowfall in the area.
The Snowfall resulted in the closure of Srinagar-Sonamarg road from past few days and triggered snow avalanches at certain places in the Gaganger area along the highway.
The district administration along with Beacon initiated the rescue operation by pressing its men and machinery into the service and around 68 domestic tourists were rescued who were stranded in different hotels in Sonamarg and were sent back to Srinagar.
Pertinently, the rescue operation was launched today early this morning under the supervision of SDM Kangan, Hakeem Tanveer.
Meanwhile, the SDM Kangan briefed the DC about the restoration of services which got affected due to snowfall and informed that electricity shall be restored by today evening.
