Scores of retail mutton dealers amid sloganeering assembled at Srinagar’s Press Enclave this afternoon and staged a protest demanding an end to the impasse over rates prescribed by the government.

Protesting mutton dealers said the government needs to come clean over mutton rates as the continuous stalemate has caused immense problems for them.

“We have been suffering, so are our families. Our shops are closed for the last four months as the stalemate over mutton rates continue. We appeal the administration to find an amicable solution to the issues so that people as well as dealers heave a sigh of relief,” said a protestor Mohammad Saleem.

He said the government must consider the recommendations put forth by the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) so that four-months-long impasse over rates comes to an end.

“We are poor people; our families suffer as we have not opened our shops ever-since the government fixed mutton rates. We appeal the government not to overstretch the issue and come to conclusion without making people to suffer,” added Saleem.

Protesting dealers also appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to personally intervene and impress upon the authorities to settle the issues once for all.
