Srinagar: Pakistani spouses of ex-Kashmiri militants Monday staged a protest here to press for issuance of travel governments for their return to their parental home on the other side of the Line of Control (LoC).
The slogan shouting “Pakistani brides”, carrying placards in their hands which read “Do justice with us, Give us citizenship rights” assembled at the Srinagar’s Press Enclave this afternoon and staged a protest demanding travel documents.
It may be in place to mention that many Kashmiri youth, who had crossed over to the other side of LoC, returned along with their Pakistani wives and children under government’s rehabilitation policy in 2010.
Their spouses, however, continue protesting against the government’s alleged failure to fulfill its commitment with regard to issuance of citizenship rights to them.
“We are living a miserable life in Kashmir ever since we returned to this side. We have been protesting since 2010 for citizenship rights but the government’s has maintained a silence. We appeal the government to either issue travel documents to us or facilitate our return to our parental home in Pakistan,” they said.
The protesting Pakistani women, who had returned via Nepal border 10 years ago, said the government should come clear whether it is really serious to adopt its ‘commitments’ on ground or its rehabilitation policy for ex-militants was mere ‘eyewash’.
