Baramulla: Civilian killings in South Kashmir triggered protests by students and violent clashes across north Kashmir’s Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts leaving several students and Station House Officer Baramulla injured on Wednesday.
Protests erupted in Degree College Baramulla after students took roads staging protest against civilian killings in South Kashmir.
Police swung into action and lathi charged the students to disperse the protestors, the students shouting slogans hurled stones on police in which Station House Officer Baramulla Khaliq Ahmed sustained head injuries and he has been shifted to Srinagar.
Earlier in Sopore, students after returning from tuition centres hit the streets at Iqbal Market in Sopore town tried to block the road against civilian killings, however forces tried to disperse them resulting panic like situation in the area.
Meanwhile, students of Degree College Handwara staged protest on Hundwara Kupwara highway outside College soon after news of Kulgam Civilian killings reached the area, however they were intercepted by forces resulting in clashes in the area.
Raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans the protesting students pelted rocks at forces, however, the forces in retaliation lobbed tear gas shells to disperse them.
Students in Bandipora, Palhallan also protested against civilian killings in Kulgam.
Police has arrested nine students and three others during the clashes in Baramulla, sources said.
