Srinagar: CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has expressed grief and shock over the death of two Kupwara youth who died in a stranded vehicle on Srinagar-Jammu NHW at Banihal due to severe cold and termed the incident as unfortunate.

In a statement issued here, Tarigami said: “It is the result of criminal negligence of the authorities. It must be probed and those responsible for negligence must be identified and booked.”

The CPI(M) leader said that the Centre’s promises on development in Jammu Kashmir after abrogation of  Article 370 proved mere a joke. “The Srinagar- Jammu National Highway connecting the Kashmir valley to the outside country could not be constructed. The road is often closed due to bad weather conditions and in winter, the problem is aggravated by snowfall. The highway has become a nightmare for the commuters due to its pathetic condition,” he added.

Meanwhile, Apni Party Senior Vice President and former Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir has termed the death of two youth hailing from Kupawar inside a stranded load carrier at Banihal as saddening and concerning as well.

In a statement issued here, Mir said that such incident is an outcome of sheer imperviousness of the administration towards the stranded people who are left to the mercy of harsh weather on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway. “We at Apni Party have repeatedly requested the administration to take a serious note of the difficulties faced by the stranded passengers on Jammu Srinagar National Highway but unless some unfortunate event takes place, the administrations continue to lull in deep slumber.”

The senior Vice president of Apni Party has sought intervention of Lt. Governor of Jammu & Kashmir and asked to probe into the matter of this cruel negligence.

“I ask the administration to put a probe into this incident of inhuman negligence and avoid repetition of such incidents in future. Besides the families of the deceased must be supported with ample compensation for they have lost their loved ones for which negligence at administrative level must be held responsible,” Mir concluded.
