Srinagar: A militant was arrested in an injured condition during an encounter with security forces in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Thursday, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Baba Gund Khaleel area in Anantnag district following information about presence of militants there, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire on the security forces.

One militant was arrested by the security forces in an injured condition and rushed to SMHS Hospital here, the official said.

He said the arrested militant, who sustained bullet injury in the abdomen, was identified as Zaheer Abbas Lone, a resident of Pulwama district.

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe militant complicity in other cases, police said.

In this connection a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, suspected militants on Thursday afternoon attacked joint party of CRPF and police at Kadalbal area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama.

News agency KNO quoted a senior police officer saying that the militants lobbed grenade followed by firing on joint party of CRPF and police at Kadalbal, however, no loss of life or injury was reported in the incident.

He said after the attack, entire area was cordoned off and a massive search operation launched to track down the attackers.

CRPF man wounded in grenade attack in Bijbehara

Srinagar: A CRPF man was injured in a grenade attack in Bijbehara town of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday, officials said.

They said that the militants lobbed a grenade at the force near Bijbehara hospital, leaving a trooper wounded. “The injured man was shifted to SDH Bijbehara where his condition is stated to be stable,” an official said.

He identified the injured CRPF man as Patil Parmakar of 40 Bn CRPF.

Immediately after the grenade attack, the entire area was cordoned off and a massive search operation launched to track down the attackers.
