Srinagar: The 49th Anniversary of the Indian victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War was celebrated by Chinar Corps at Badami Bagh Cantonment on 16 December 2020, a defence spokesman said in a statement issued here.

The Indian Army’s victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War led to the birth of Bangladesh. In this War, the Indian Army had captured 93,000 prisoners, the maximum number since the end of the Second World War.

“The Chinar Corps was responsible for the entire erstwhile State of Jammu & Kashmir during the war and ably supported by the people, gave a sterling account of itself in various battles achieving many successes. A solemn wreath laying ceremony was organised at the War Memorial,” said the spokesman.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Lt Gen BS Raju, Chinar Corps Commander said that the Army is grateful to the veterans for their services to the Nation. The Chinar Corps Commander said that a victory of such a magnitude would not have been possible without tremendous sacrifice by the soldiers. Their matchless contribution to Nation building is a testimony for future generations to emulate and urge them to continue to positively contribute towards building a vibrant and peaceful Kashmir. “UT of J & K is going through a process of change to bring an end to Pakistan sponsored terrorism. Concentrated efforts of the state and the citizens of UT of J & K will soon bring peace and prosperity,” said the Corps Commander.

He further stated that this year being the Golden Jubilee year, we will be celebrating the Swarnim Vijay Varsh with final culmination on 16 Dec 2021. “Many mega events have been planned which will be celebrated across the country and same will be undertaken in Kashmir also. One of the major events will be the Victory Flame which will pass through key battle areas and other native places of Gallantry Award winners of 1971 war.”

LG pays tributes to 1971 war martyrs on Vijay Diwas

Jammu: Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday paid tribute to the army personnel who laid down their lives for the nation during 1971 war.

“I salute our gallant soldiers for their exemplary courage and supreme sacrifice to gain a decisive victory for our Nation in the 1971 war,” Sinha said in his message on ‘Vijay Diwas’.

The day commemorates the historic victory of Indian armed forces and the indomitable spirit of the brave soldiers.

“On Vijay Diwas, let us remember the valour of our soldiers and their unwavering commitment to defend India’s sovereignty and protect human dignity”, the Lt Governor said.

“We are eternally indebted to our brave soldiers for their courage and selfless service to the nation for protecting our frontiers from the enemies and maintaining peace in the country,” he said.
