Srinagar: A family from Shopian district of south Kashmir Monday staged a protest here accusing the police of  having “falsely implicated” their son in Amshipora alleged fake encounter in which three youth from Rajouri district  were killed in July this year.

Seeking intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the parents and relatives of Tabish Nazir from Chogam Shopian assembled at Press Enclave here this afternoon and staged a protest to press for the early release of their son.

Parents of Tabish, who accused the police of having “falsely implicated” him in Amshipora encounter, said their son was picked up by the army on August 18 and later handed over to local police after the killing of three Rajouri youth in alleged fake encounter.

They alleged that the police want to put the blame on their son “so as to save real culprits from being exposed”.

Three persons, who are believed to be working as informers for the army, have recorded their statements before the Army’s Court of Inquiry probing July 18 encounter in which three laborers were killed.

Pertinent to mention here that three laborers from Rajouri were killed in alleged fake encounter with Army in Amshipora Shopian in south Kashmir on July 18 this year.

“My son is innocent; he is a laborer and not an army informer, he is not remotely involved in the Amshipora encounter, it’s the police which in an attempt to save real culprits want my son to be blamed for what he has not done. I want my son to be released,” Nazir Ahmad, father of Tabish told reporters.

He said the police after arresting Tabish, who is believed to be an “army informer” also produced him before the court in connection with the Amshipora encounter.

Nazir sought intervention of the Lieutenant Governor into the issue so that those involved in the crime are brought to book.

“Instead of acting on my complaint, the police asked me to sign blank papers and I, being an illiterate, acted accordingly. I appeal to the Lieutenant Governor to intervene and order an impartial probe to bring facts to fore,” he added.
