Srinagar: Workers of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday burnt the effigy of Chinese President Xi Jinping here as a mark of protest against ‘brutal’ killing of 20 Indian soldiers by Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) along the Line of Actual Control at Galwan valley in eastern Ladakh earlier this week.

Shouting slogans against China, BJP workers assembled outside party Srinagar office at Jawaharnagar here and staged protest against Chinese intrusion into Indian territory and subsequent killing of 20 soldiers of Bihar Regiment during violent faceoff in Galwan.

Protesters also set effigy of Chinese President Xi Jinping on fire and appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give go ahead to Indian army to “launch surgical strike on China the way lesson was taught to Pakistan post-Pulwama episode last year”.

BJP workers also pledged to boycott Chinese products and asked people to use ‘Make in India’ creation to tumble down the economic structure of China.

Talking to reporters, BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur while expressing sympathies with the families of slain soldiers asserted that PM Modi will avenge the killing by carrying out surgical strike on China.

“We have assembled here to protest Chinese aggression in Ladakh. Our 20 unarmed soldiers were killed by PLA and I am of the firm belief that PM Modi will act the way he acted against Pakistan post-Pulwama attack in February 2019. I hope PM would give go ahead to army for carrying out surgical strike on China,” Thakur added.

He also said that China should not misjudge power of India and that PLA should step back to their territory before the situation turns ugly on ground and “dragon won’t get time to repent”.
