Baramulla: Barely a week after electricity was restored in Astan Mohalla of Bandipayeen area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the 100 KV transformer installed in the area developed a snag again on Thursday.

Locals that said in five months it is the seventh time that the transformer has developed snag. “The transformer got defunct in the month of January this year. We transported the transformer to the PDD workshop at our own expense. After a gap of of 15 days, officials repaired the transformer and installed it in the village but after remaining functional for a few days, it developed some technical snag again. People again contributed some money and took the transformer to the workshop and it took the officials 15 days to repair the transformer. But after remaining functional for a week, the transformer went defunct again,” they said.

“The transformer was once again brought for installation on May 23. But it developed a snag again on Thursday,” locals said.

“We have requested the PDD authorities several times to replace the low capacity transformer of the village with a high one, so that it can bear the load of the all households of the village but all our pleas fell on deaf ears,” they said.

Locals said that during the past five month they have seen electricity for 20 days but are made to pay the full electricity bills by the PDD.

The residents appealed Chief Engineer PDD to look into the matter.

When contacted Superintending Engineer PDD Baramulla, Muneer Ahmad, he said that the issue of transformer will be resolved on priority and advised residents to visit his office.
