JAMMU:  Principal Secretary PDD, Rohit Kansal and Chief Executive Officer JKERA/JTFRP, Dr. Abid Rasheed Shah today visited railway station Jammu and had a detailed review of the arrangements in place for the stranded passengers returning from different parts of the country in the wake of Corona pandemic.

Later, they received the 11th COVID special Jammu-Dehli AC train carrying about 760 passengers and had brief interaction with them about their journey and the facilities being extended by the government.

Kansal, while elaborately defining the importance of observing all necessary preventive measures regarding the Virus, exhorted upo all the concerned for strict adherence to the same for their own safety and safety of others as well. He also sought cooperation from all stakeholders towards battling this global pandemic with added energy and vigour.

The Jammu and Kashmir district administrations have received 32 COVID special trains at Jammu and Udhampur railway stations from different states and UTs, so far, with about 26, 034 stranded passengers while about 66694 persons have been evacuated by the government through Lakhanpur till date.

Meanwhile, about 652 passengers including students have already reached at Srinagar International Airport under Vande Bharat Mission through 4 COVID special flights.

Therefore, a total of about 93,380 J&K residents stranded outside UT have been brought back to the UT by the Jammu and Kashmir government by 32 COVID special trains besides scores of buses through Lakhanpur after strictly observing all necessary preventive measures regarding the Virus.

As per the detailed break up about the figures, about 670 stranded passengers have entered through Lakhanpur from May 24 to May 25 morning while 760 passengers have reached today in the 12th Delhi COVID special train at Jammu and about 2177 passengers have reached at Udhampur railway station from Bandra and Shalimar and Chennai in three special trains. So far, 12 trains have reached Jammu with a total of 10,394 stranded passengers belonging to different districts while 15,640 passengers have reached Udhampur in 20 special trains, so far.

As per the official communiqué, of 66694 returnees evacuated through Lakhanpur till May 24, 2020 (morning) included 15712 from Punjab; 20499 from Himachal Pardesh, 21 from Andhra Pardesh, 6538 from Delhi, 1357 from Gujrat, 2743 from Rajasthan, 3861 from Haryana, 150 from Chattisgarh, 3370 from Uttarakhand, 1019 from Maharashtra, 4306 from Uttar Pradesh, 63 from Odisha, 252 from Assam and 985 from Madhya Pradesh, 88 from Dehradun, 1111 from Chandigarh, 684 from Telengana, 106 from Karnataka, 19 from Tamilnadu, 52 from Chennai, 303 from Bihar, 155 from West Bengal, 26 from Jharkhand, 3 from Nepal and 3271 from other states and UTs.

Meanwhile, a total of 16,615 outbound migrant workers, stranded in various districts of Jammu and Kashmir, have been sent back to their home states and UTs through Shramik special trains from Katra since 19th of May 2020, till date.

Principal Secretary PDD, Rohit Kansal; Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi and Chief Electoral Officer, Hirdesh Kumar, who are the Nodal Officers for management of return of stranded people at Jammu, Udhampur and Kathua respectively, are personally monitoring the facilities being extended to the passengers during their de-boarding and movement to their home districts.
