Srinagar, Mar 27: A family from central Budgam, whose son was murdered last year allegedly by his business associate, Tuesday held a protest here accusing police of providing “custodial relaxation” to the accused in violation of court orders.

The protesting family members who assembled at the Press Enclave here this afternoon questioned the police for releasing the under-trail accused to attend his daughter’s marriage for 10 days.

Pertinently, police had on July 04 last year recovered the dead body of Mushtaq Ahmad Ganaie, a resident of Ompora Budgam at Hutmura Mattan in Anantnag.

Mushtaq, who had gone to buy some livestock from one Javaid Ahmad Gujri from Mattan, was allegedly murdered by Gujri and two others.

“Accused Gujri had moved a bail application for ten days to attend his daughter’s marriage which was turned down by the court. Then how is it that the police released him for ten days? Does that mean that police is above law? This is the only question that brought us here,” said sister of the slain businessman.

They alleged that the police have been treating the accused Gujri who they claimed killed their son in cold-blood for want of money “as a VIP”.

“We came to know that police released him on compassionate basis as his daughter was to be married. But what about the minor children of the slain person who often cry for their father? I ask the police what makes you to release him, that too when court had already rejected his bail plea?” she added.

They said that Mushtaq is survived with two minor children and wife, who have been in a state of shock since his murder. “It is very difficult to make his children aware of the truth; they are not ready to accept that their father is no more while as his wife seems to have lost her mental balance,” the protesting family said.

Family members, who had carried banners and placards in their hands calling for “death penalty to the accused” demanded capital punishment to the accused and others involved in this murder.

“We will intensify our protest and file complaint against police in court for encouraging the accused. We want capital punishment to the Gujri and his associates for murdering our son,” said they.
