BARAMULLA: The District administration Baramulla, with the help of social organizations, is providing adequate succour to the needy people amid the coronavirus outbreak here.

The Administration has distributed thousands of food packets to the needy and daily wage labourers- the worst affected lot of the society amid nationwide lockdown.

The huge exercise is being carried out in addition to various other measures taken by the district administration to mitigate Coronavirus impact. Social organizations are extending full men and material support to supplement the efforts of the government.  The food packets and other relief are being provided to the poor at their doorsteps, while maintaining due social distancing norms.

Deputy Commissioner, Dr. G N Itoo said that the administration is providing dry food packets and necessary items to all the people, who are unable to earn even a single meal a day. He further said that in the course of next few days, the district administration will ensure that enough food packets are made available to the needy and deserving in every part of the district during the third phase of the lockdown.

The DC, while giving details, said that during the lockdown, administration gave away 1300 food family packs to 800 migrant labourers and 500 destitute families, free of cost. Besides this, essential medicines and other essential items are also being delivered at the doorsteps of the old aged where ever required urgently. The district administration will continue to work tirelessly to help the needy, he said.

Furthermore, Assistant Director FCS&CA informed that in addition to routine food grain quota, being provided by FCS &CA department, extra 30 thousand quintal rice was also distributed free of cost among 1.26 lakh PBL, BPL families for the month of April.

Around 1500 migrant labourers are getting free food through three dedicated centers in the district, he added.

Moreover, he said, with the help of J&K Help Foundation, J&K Yateem Foundation and Human Aid Society, dry food kits and cash assistance is also given to hundreds of destitute families including Specially Abled persons, Orphans and other deserving at various places.
