“On April 25, I admitted my wife Nazira Nazeer at GMC Hospital with labour pain under IPD registration number 587 and doctors kept her under observation till evening and advised us various tests.  Late in the evening, a senior consultant surgeon doctor after examining the tests told the doctor on night duty to take care of the patient and if she doesn’t deliver normally by 10.00 pm then go for surgery during night and don’t wait till morning.”

“My wife complained severe labour pain at about 10:30 pm. We approached the doctor and nursing staff, they didn’t bother to check the patient while the concerned doctor had bolted his room and slept soundly,” he alleged.

“Next day morning they took her inside and after three hours they called a surgeon and informed me that my first baby died,” said the sobbing father.

After child’s death, family members and relatives of the newborn staged strong protest against the doctor.

Later, family filed a written complaint with Principal GMC Prof. Abdul Hamid and Medical Superintendent Dr. Syed Masood who assured them departmental probe into the death of newborn.

Taking to media persons, Prof. Abdul Hamid said that the patient admitted in the hospital was examined by gynecologist. During baseline investigation her platelet count came less and doctor advised her for repeat the test.

“She was kept under observation for night and in the morning tests came normal. Later, the patient came in full labour pain but due to unexplained reasons the newborn died,” said Principal GMC. Dr. Hamid.

He ruled out any fetal distress and meconium as cause of death, however, he said there can be number of unexplained reasons.

“We are investigating the death of the neonate and action will follow if anybody is found guilty,” he added.
