Governor approves scholarship Scheme for meritorious students of SMVD College of Nursing

JAMMU, MARCH 25: Governor N. N. Vohra, Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, has approved a Scholarship Scheme for the B. Sc. Nursing students of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing, Kakryal.

This scheme has been introduced to inculcate competitive spirit among the students and provide financial assistance to the meritorious as well as poor and needy students to enable them to pursue and complete the professional course in Nursing at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing, Kakryal.

This scheme, titled “Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Nursing Scholarship Scheme” will benefit 24 students, three each under Merit and Merit-cum-Means categories, year wise for four years. Each selected student will get tuition fee waiver of 100 percent, 75 percent and 50 percent amounting to Rs 40,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively, in each academic year on the basis of her inter-se merit among the first 3 positions in the previous two semesters of the 2nd, 3rdand 4th academic years. However, for the 1st year students, the combined merit of 10+2 marks and Entrance Test will be considered for award of merit Scholarship.

The amount of scholarship will be directly credited into the bank account of the selected student.

On the advice of the Chairman of the Shrine Board, the Governing Body of the College of Nursing finalised the Scholarship Scheme at its 22ndmeeting which was held recently and subsequently approved by the Chairman of the Board.

It is pertinent to mention that the Shrine Board has established the College of Nursing in 2016 for providing top quality nursing education to the students. It is approved by the Indian Nursing Council and J&K State Nursing Council with a current intake capacity of 60 students. The College is affiliated to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. The two batches of students are already studying in this College. The admission process for 3rd Batch of 4 year B.Sc. Nursing Course for the Session 2018-19 will commence from 16 April when the online filling up of applications will start and the last date for online filling up the applications will be 27 May. The Entrance Test will be held on 3rd June 2018.

It may be mentioned   that the Board has at its 62nd meeting held on 16th March 2018, approved the College of Nursing Master Plan at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence at Kakryal. The approved Master Plan envisages for establishment of an autonomous campus for the College of Nursing which comprises academic/administrative block, hostels, residential, sports and other allied facilities. The work on the two hostel blocks, as per the Master Plan, has already commenced and these hostels will be ready for accommodating students by July 2019.
