Baramulla, Mar 25: Mobile Internet service was suspended in parts of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday following the killing of a militant – a resident of Wagoora village – in a shootout with the government forces in Arizal village of Budgam.

The slain militant, identified as Shafat Hussain Wani, son of Late Mohammad Akbar Wani, had reportedly joined militant ranks last year.

According to the police, Wani was killed in retaliatory fire after he fired upon the government forces which had launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Khan Mohalla of Arizal around midnight.

Reports said that people in hundreds started visiting the slain militant’s home, amid pro-freedom sloganeering. They said forces were been deployed in strength in the area to prevent protests.

Mobile Internet service was also suspended in parts of Baramulla district soon after news of Wani’s death spread in the area.
