“The low lying wires from the tilted electric poles are touching the roof of the mosque in DurporaVillage posing a grave risk to the mosque,” locals told Kashmir Images adding that “the village has witnessed many fire accidents in the past due to this grave problem.”

A resident of Durpora village Javaid Ahmad Naik told Kashmir Images that we have raised the issue with the senior officials of the Power Development Department (PDD) but they turned a deaf ear to our repeated pleas.

“Tilted wooden electric poles are on the brink of collapse but the PDD officials are reluctant to replace these damaged electric poles,” alleged Javaid.

“The bad condition of electric poles in our village may lead to a major disaster any minute and the PDD officials will be held responsible for it,” he added.

Talking to Kashmir Images over phone, the Assistant Engineer (AE), Chitragam Shopian, Syed Talib acknowledged the grievance of Durpora inhabitants and said that due to the shortage of funds we are not able to replace the damaged electric poles in the village.

“The replacement of the electric poles and damaged wires will be done as soon as there the funds are available,” said Syed Talib.
