Secy Tourism reviews progress of tourism development projects

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 29:  Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Mr. Zubair Ahmad Saturday chaired a meeting here to review the status of projects being executed across various tourist circuits in Kashmir division sanctioned under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP), Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan (PMRP) and CAPEX Budget. He also reviewed the status regarding outsourcing of assets of Directorate of Tourism Kashmir, SKICC and various Tourism Development Authorities.

Director Tourism Kashmir, Nisar Ahmad Wani, Director Planning, Parvez Ahmad Kakroo, Chief Executive Officers of various Development Authorities, Executive Engineers and senior officers of the Tourism Department attended the meeting.

Secretary Tourism was briefed about the status of various ongoing projects in the tourism sector including those related to development of tourists facilitation centers, tourist reception centers, gender based toilets, installation of bio-digesters, solid waste management, parking, pathways and food courts, landscaping, installation of lighting, construction of the jetties, facilities at Mughal gardens and at pilgrim sites, macadamization of approach roads to off beat destinations etc.

While setting clear completion timelines for each pending project, Secretary Tourism emphasized on the executing agencies to ensure that all tourism projects under PMDP are completed by May 2020 while maintaining the quality of work. He also directed the executing agencies to immediately submit completion and utilization certificates (UCs) to the administrative department.

Secretary Tourism observed that the tourism department is vigorously promoting J&K’s varied tourism products and for the purpose road shows are being organized in many cities across the country.

Secretary Tourism called upon the officers of the tourism department to gear up for the spring and summer tourist season and ensure that facilities available across tourist destinations are kept ready to host tourists.
