7 residential houses damaged after land sinking in Kreeri

Baramulla: After recent heavy snowfall and rains, at least ten families of Pir Mohalla in Kreeri have been rendered homeless after their residential houses developed fissures and cracks due to land sinking on Monday.

According to a local resident Syed Khursheed Ahmad Bukhari, at least seven residential houses were damaged due to land sinking triggered by melting snow and rains at Pir Mohalla in Kreeri. He said ten families living in these structures had to leave for safety as the houses developed cracks.

He added that residential house of one Abdul Hamid was completely damaged while as six other houses developed big cracks and fissures.

The affected house owners are Syed Habibullah Bukhari,Syed Khursheed Ahmad Bukhari,Syed Mohmmad Ashraf Bukhari,Syed Imtiyaz Ahmad Bukhari,Ghulam Hussan Sheikh, and Abdul Majid Sheikh.

“Around 9:00 am in the morning we heard some cracking sounds of falling trees and felt a tremor as land started sinking, creating panic among the residents. Initially it seemed an earthquake later we saw the land sliding due to which residential houses developed cracks,” they said.

The affected families have demanded immediate rehabilitation and arrangement of alternative land for them. Meanwhile, Tehsildar Kreeri along with a team of revenue officials visited affected village to assess the damage.
