Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet in an alleged Rs 35 lakh cheque fraud case before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Pulwama.

The chargesheet has been filed against Mushtaq Ahmad Yatoo, a resident of Chanpora, Rajpora, Pulwama, in connection with FIR No. 44/2026 registered under Sections 318(2), 336(3) and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the EOW, the case originated from a complaint by a person who alleged that he had been in a business partnership with the accused. During the settlement of accounts, Rs 35 lakh was reportedly found outstanding against Yatoo.

The complainant alleged that the accused issued a cheque to settle the liability, but the bank dishonoured it as it was drawn in the name of the accused’s father, who had died two years earlier. The accused had allegedly signed the cheque himself.

The EOW said its investigation substantiated the allegations and established grounds for prosecution. The investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad, following which the chargesheet was submitted before the competent court for judicial determination.

The EOW has advised people to maintain proper documentation of business transactions and verify financial instruments to guard against alleged financial fraud.
