Anantnag: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag Amod Ashok Nagpure on Sunday directed police officers to intensify operations against drug traffickers and peddlers, identify drug supply networks and trace properties allegedly acquired through proceeds of narcotics trafficking.

The directions were issued during a comprehensive crime and operational review meeting convened by the SSP at the District Police Office (DPO), Anantnag, to assess the prevailing security situation, review policing measures and examine progress in ongoing investigations.

The meeting was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) North Camp Ashmuqam Rameez Raja, all Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), Station House Officers (SHOs) and In-Charges of Police Posts.

During the meeting, the SSP reviewed crime trends across the district, the investigation of registered cases, pendency of investigations and measures being undertaken to prevent criminal activities.

He directed officers to expedite investigations and ensure that cases were pursued in a result-oriented manner. He also stressed the need for stronger supervisory oversight and adherence to professional standards in handling investigations.

Focusing on the drug menace, Nagpure called for targeted action against drug traffickers, peddlers and habitual offenders. He directed officers to focus on identifying the networks involved in the supply and distribution of narcotics rather than limiting enforcement efforts to individual arrests.

He also stressed the importance of tracing the proceeds of drug trafficking and identifying properties allegedly acquired through illicit activities so that appropriate legal action could be initiated under the relevant provisions of law.

The SSP further called for strengthening preventive policing through effective beat-level surveillance, regular field-level monitoring and timely action against anti-social elements.

Emphasising coordination and accountability, he directed officers to maintain close communication across police units and ensure that public grievances were addressed promptly.

Nagpure urged all officers to remain vigilant and proactive, strengthen policing at the grassroots level and work towards maintaining peace, security and a safe environment across Anantnag district.
