Jammu The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu on Saturday filed a chargesheet against a dentist accused of cheating a man on the pretext of securing him a government job in the Health Department, an official said.

The chargesheet was filed before the Court of Special Municipal Mobile Magistrate in Jammu against Liaqat Ali Khan, a resident of Gujjar Nagar, in connection with a case registered in 2024. The accused allegedly duped Johar Hafeez of Rs 5.50 lakh by promising to secure his appointment as a Junior Assistant in the Health Department, a Crime Branch spokesman said.

In his complaint, Hafeez had alleged that Khan cheated him by claiming influential contacts in the Civil Secretariat.

During the investigation, statements of the complainant, bank officials and other witnesses were recorded, the spokesman said, adding the investigation corroborated the transfer of money from the complainant’s bank account into the accused’s account, thereby substantiating the allegations of cheating.

He said further investigation revealed that the accused is a dentist and is reportedly involved in several other cases registered in Crime Branch Jammu.

Based on the evidence, including bank account statements, transaction records, electronic chat communications and relevant service records collected during investigation, the offence under Section 420 RPC has been established against the accused, and accordingly the chargesheet has been filed for judicial determination, the spokesman said.
