JAMMU: The Army’s Tiger Division on Tuesday concluded high-altitude trekking and cycling expeditions to mark the 80th Infantry Day, paying tribute to the valour and sacrifice of generations of infantry personnel.
The trekking expedition, conducted from September 25 to October 27, covered 170 kilometres along the challenging route from Shialkhar to Hansa in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti Valley. The participating troops navigated rugged mountain terrain and demanding high-altitude conditions.
The cycling expedition, held from October 10 to 27, covered 1,064 kilometres between Jammu and Kullu in Himachal Pradesh and back. The route traversed diverse terrain and challenging road conditions across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
During the expeditions, the teams interacted with Veer Naris, veterans, local residents, National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets and schoolchildren along the routes. The interactions aimed to raise awareness about career opportunities in the Indian Army and promote patriotism among young people.
The teams also undertook plantation drives at various locations to promote environmental awareness and strengthen engagement with local communities.
The Army said the successful completion of the expeditions on October 27 reflected the Infantry’s values of endurance, teamwork, camaraderie and perseverance. The initiatives also sought to strengthen civil-military relations and commemorate the service and sacrifice of infantry personnel.
The expeditions reaffirmed the Infantry’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Army said.
